KannaLab’s work with hemp began through cultivation and the ambition to develop a local farm-to-fibre pathway in Eastern Slovakia.
This experience showed that a meaningful material value chain requires more than growing a crop. It depends on processing knowledge, technical expertise, design, education and collaboration.
Together with Textilné centrum and other partners, we connect hemp and natural materials with textile culture, research and contemporary innovation.
From materials to shared knowledge
Together with Textilné centrum, we are developing practical tools that connect physical materials with the knowledge, technologies and people behind them.
The Textile Materials Library is a wider database of textile materials, technologies and organisations. It brings together traditional and innovative materials, processing techniques, manufacturers, farms, designers, craftspeople, research institutions and universities, showing how these elements are connected across the textile ecosystem.
The Hemp Materials Library focuses specifically on the hemp value chain across the V4 countries and Germany. It maps growers, processors, technologies, production
capacities, experts and institutions involved in transforming hemp from agricultural raw material into fibres, yarns, textiles and other material applications.
We are building on these resources through a growing network of farmers, textile specialists, designers, researchers, universities and material innovators, creating a foundation for education, knowledge exchange, new partnerships and future European projects.
